  11. Day 11: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Arise early, have breakfast and transfer to the sectoral offices of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park reaching in time for a pre-trek orientation from the park rangers who will tell you what to expect and how to conduct yourself while in the Jungle trekking the gorillas.

Trekking through the hilly impenetrable forest of Bwindi and then finally coming across the gorillas cloaked in the foliage is an amazing experience, and indescribable because of the difficulty to paint a verbal picture of the vegetation, terrain, smells, colours and the animated entertainment from the gorillas and other residents of the jungle.

Your trek could last anything between 2 to 8 hours. Therefore, your physical stamina and endurance is greatly required for this experience. The trek for the great apes is tiresome but very well rewarded by meeting, spending an hour with and photographing these gentle giants (The mountain  gorillas) as you look straight into their inviting brown eyes. This is a lifetime thrill of a wildlife adventure that only Africa can offer.

After your one hour with the gorillas, you return to the starting point or a point recommended by your ranger to have your packed lunch.

Having replenished your energy with a meal, you will then embark on your journey back to the starting point to meet your guide who will drive you back to your lodge for relaxation as you wait to have dinner and retire to your bed.

Do not leave these items behind; sunscreen, insect repellent, your passport, camera, hiking boots, long safari pants and long sleeved shirts or T-shirt plus a light rain jacket. Please avoid very bright and hot coloured clothes- These not only attract insects to you but can be offensive to the residents of the jungle. These items will come in handy as you go through the thick forest and encounter the unpredictable weather of Bwindi: Expect rain or sunshine anytime.
