UGANDA’S ART AND CRAFTS

Art and craft are part of our culture here in Uganda and it is a practice that has been passed down from generation to generation. It includes crafts like weaving (baskets, mats), paintings, pottery, wood-curving and others. Wood-curving is a sector which has thrived traditionally and still thrives today in Uganda. The commonest domestic products curved from wood are stools, beds, mortars and pestles, bowls, wooden canoes, wooden sculptures that are also done as decorations taking the form of masks, sculptures of different figures, walking sticks and others.

Weaving of items like baskets and mats is one of the most highly developed crafts in Uganda. Weaving is essential in making baskets and mats, building traditional huts and many other household items. Recently, there has been redesigning wave to make modern items like furniture, hand bags, table mats, ornament baskets and mats with different patterns and colors.

While on safari, you can take a moment to experience, see and participate in how these beautiful African crafts come to life. Should be fun!
